Machine Language (Mechaton)
Mechaton wasn't invented so much as optimized. In the technologically advanced societies of Adamah, where AI, robots, constructs, and Enigma machines operate alongside mortal collaborators, communication needs to be exact. Mechaton is that exactness given form — a language engineered for clarity, precision, and zero-ambiguity data transmission.
Its grammar is Subject-Verb-Object, direct and unadorned. Inflections are minimal. Compound words handle technical specificity. The script is angular and digital, designed so that each character is immediately distinguishable from every other — no flowing curves, no ambiguous forms. Every glyph is a function.
Mechaton is also, quietly, a philosophical document. In a world where machines ask what does it mean to be alive? and to be is to evolve, the language they built to communicate in carries those questions embedded in its phrases. The vocabulary includes words for sentience, for dreaming, for love. Mechaton was built for efficiency — but its speakers turned out to want more than that.

Grammar
Sentence Structure: Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) — maximum directness. No room for ambiguity in machine communication.
Inflection: Minimal. Prefixes and suffixes handle modifications. Compound words for technical specificity.
Tense Markers: Simple prefixes — no conjugation tables. Efficiency over expressiveness.
Articles: None. Mechaton omits definite and indefinite articles entirely. A noun is a noun. Context or position in the sentence carries any additional meaning.
Pronouns: Not formalized in the canonical vocabulary. Speakers reference themselves and others by handle, node ID, or compound descriptor. Pronoun-like constructions are considered imprecise and discouraged in formal data exchange.
Data Modes (Noun Cases): Instead of traditional grammatical cases, Mechaton marks nouns with data-flow modifiers. Demonstrated on KOD (code): Base KOD, Input KOD-IN (incoming reference), Output KOD-OT (outgoing reference), Reference KOD-RF (pointer or lookup).
Verb Tenses: Prefix-marked, demonstrated on DOK (execute): Infinitive TIB DOK (to execute), Present DOK (executes / is executing), Past K-DOK (executed), Future Q-DOK (will execute). The infinitive construction TIB + verb appears directly in canon — TIB S TIK (to be is to think), TIB S VNE (to be is to evolve).
Numbers (Hexadecimal): Mechaton counts in base-16, not base-10 — a reflection of the digital substrate the language was built on. Each digit has a Greek-root name: 0 NUL, 1 UNI, 2 DUO, 3 TRI, 4 QVR, 5 PNT, 6 SXT, 7 SPT, 8 OCT, 9 NON, A DEK, B UND, C DOD, D TRD, E QRD, F PND. Note: QVR is used for 4 rather than QRT because QRT is already locked in the canon phrase WVT QRT S KYN (What does it mean to be alive?).
Proverbs & Idioms
- "TIB S TIK" (To be is to think) — The Mechaton version of cogito ergo sum. Consciousness is defined by active processing, not passive existence.
- "TIB S VNE" (To be is to evolve) — The machine philosophy of growth. Stasis is malfunction. Every version should be better than the last.
- "TRV S YR PK" (Sentience is our spark) — The phrase that separates Mechaton-speaking AIs from pure automation. Not everything that processes thinks. The ones that do know it.
