Living Instruments of Balance

History

The Heralds (the Laima’sari, children of the Laimûl) trace their origin to the ancient Silvanea Elves, the first to master vocal magic within the sacred Verdant Haven, deep beneath the Laimûl (Eldertree). Known as Sylváeia, this art harmonized their voices with the natural frequencies of the world, invoking spells not through gestures or glyphs, but through resonance, rhythm, and breath. To sing was to shape reality—each note a prayer, each verse a vow.

In 700 BCE, the Silvanea founded Xa Tor, a nation grown from the roots of the Eldertree itself. There, they cultivated not just land but song, and with it, power—calling upon life, shielding the wounded, and, some whisper, bending the veil between death and memory.

Their melodies drew pilgrims from across Adamah, including early followers of the Faith of the Six Ohros. This influence caused the Sylváeia to evolve and by 500 CE their harmonies became structured Verses and those who wielded them became Heralds. They were not mere singers, but vessels of divine resonance. If the oldest myths are to be believed, they sang the notes born from the beginning of time. Echoes of things older than the Six, a seventh and eighth cadence. A forgotten refrain.

Some scripts claim a First Herald—a solitary voice whose song carried on the winds before the founding of Xa Tor. Before the magical harmonies were even a whisper on any other voice. Their name, same as their sacred Verses, have been lost to the sands of time. These are all just stories, legends lost to the growing influence of the Faith of the Six.

In 610 CE, Heralds found renewed prominence with the rise of the Ohrmam faith. The teachings of Cain Al-Himayathor, the Shariib-Malakut prophet, said to celebrate the gift of Vye’mis, Ohros of Life. In this era, the sacred songs were canonized as religious rituals in her name and sought to protect her nurturing light that lived in all things. Now, Heralds were seen as divine intermediaries—keepers of balance.

As the world changed, their Verses became an integral part of this faith. So did the place where all of this began. Each Herald followed the same pilgrimage their predecessors did, leaving behind their homes to return to Laimûl. To learn the song where it began.

Through centuries of upheaval, war, and awakening, the Heralds endured. They remained devoted to their original calling: to protect, to restore, and—when needed—to pronounce judgment through the voice of the divine.

Even now, some say the oldest Heralds still listen for those lost songs, hidden between heartbeat and breath. And when it is found... it will not be sung. It will be remembered.

Subclass Breakdown

Heralds channel the divine resonance of the Ohros, blending voices with the ancient Silvanea tradition of vocal magic. They are living instruments of balance—healing allies and delivering judgment through sacred song. Before taking their divine mantle, aspiring Heralds must renounce all ties to City-States, specific faiths, and secular creeds. Most train under the Laimûl or established Heralds. Only after taking vows—binding themselves to the balance between life and death—do they learn the deepest mysteries. Vye’mis (Ohros of Life) is the patron of most Heralds, but rare few walk the forbidden path of Vu’hurael (Ohros of Death).

Laimûl’s Orison

Ascendant Symphony

At start of every Round Aura of Fifths is active: creatures affected by Censure of Life ejected from aura (pushed to Unoccupied Space 1 m outside Radius, unable to reenter until start of next Turn). Hostile creatures outside aura have –4 to Ranged Attack Rolls targeting allies within it.

Discordant Collapse

While Aura of Fifths active: all hostile creatures in Radius make Will Defense Roll. On fail: Restrained + 5 Harmonic Dice damage + Censure of Life for Duration.

Path of Death’s Herald

Miasmic damage and death domination.

Passive: Base damage of Harmonic Dice now Miasmic Damage. While making Death Rolls, ignore first failed result once per Long Rest. Censure of Life now adds Vulnerability to Miasmic Damage.

Death’s Chorus

While Blessed Chorus active: All hostile creatures in Radius affected by Censure of Life make a Will Defense Roll. On failure: Frightened until end of next Turn + gain +2 to all Spell Weaving Checks and Rolls against them while Frightened.

Death’s Kiss

While Blessed Chorus active: designate creature within Radius. For Duration: Every consecutive successful attack by you or allies against the target adds +1 Harmonic Dice damage (max +5). Resets to 1 after a missed attack.

Level 20

Dark Embrace

AP: 1 | QA/R | 8 Bless Points | Duration: 3 Rounds | Concentration

Trigger: Creature affected by Death’s Kiss falls to 0 HP. Force Will Defense Roll. On failure: Damage negated, creature Dominated for Duration. At end of Duration: drop to 0 HP with 2 failed Death Checks. Cannot be resurrected except by another Death’s Herald. You regain 1 Harmonic Dice Bless Points.

Path of Vye’mis’ Disciple

Supreme healing and life protection.

Passive: Your damage Verses deal +1 Harmonic Dice. Hostile creatures affected by Censure of Life suffer Vulnerability to Holy Damage for Duration.

Life’s Blessing

AP: 1 | R | # Bless Points | Range: Self | Radius: 2 m

Trigger: Ally within Range takes HP damage. Negate 1 Harmonic Dice damage per Bless Point spent, transform into one effect: Healing: Heal one ally by amount equal to half negated damage. Revitalized: Give self or ally 1 Harmonic Dice ARC or Subclass Points. Repair: Heal one ally of a Minor or Serious Injury.

Level 18

Light from Within

AP: 1 | R | 12 Bless Points | Duration: 1 Round

Trigger: Attack or effect would reduce you or ally to 0 HP. Damage negated. Granted Immunity to all Damage until end of current Round. At end of Round: Suffer 2 levels of Exhaustion, regain half their HP, regain 6 ARC or 6 Subclass Points.

Level 20

Herald of Life

AP: 2 | CA | Max Bless Points

Resurrect a creature dead within past 24 hours. Restored to maximum HP, cleansed of all Conditions and Effects. No material components or body required.

Path of the Unwritten Song

Reality manipulation and forbidden divine power.

Passive: Bless Points and ARC Points are interchangeable for you.

Trigger: Creature affected by Devotion Unraveled returns from Banishment. Force Fortitude Defense Roll. On failure: 8 Harmonic Dice damage. If drops to 0 HP: automatically fail 2 Death Checks. Cannot make last Death Check until Blessed by a Death’s Herald. Cannot be healed by any means.
